Something to Consider

Phil 2:8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

Last night a group of ladies and myself were contemplating how much Jesus had to humble Himself to live as a man and die for a people who were His enemies. (Romans 5:10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son...)

Although, this side of heaven we cannot possibly comprehend the magnitude of this truth, we are able to gain some understanding of the size of the heavens through science and thus get an idea of the biggness of God, leading to a better understanding of... He humbled Himself.

Recently my family and I were invited to attend a science camp for home schoolers, no we do not home school but our friends invited us anyway.  We did not attend the whole camp only one portion, the dinner.  Ha!  After dinner a non-profit organization called 4th Day Alliance put on a presentation that took us, the observers, into space with the attempt to give us an understanding of the size of the earth compared to the other planets, the sun, the solar system, the galaxies and the two largest stars in space, as well as, the vastness of the space between all these objects. The presentation was very effective especially towards the end when the largest known star was introduced (sorry I cannot remember the name), this star is so big that hundreds of our Milky Way Galaxies can span this star from one side of it to the other side. Amazing to say the least.  The interesting observation in this example of the size of this star wasn't it's size (because truly the enormity of it is a little beyond my grasp) rather it was the size of the earth compared to the star. Remember hundreds of our galaxies spanned this star which means our earth was completely engulfed, not able to be seen anywhere.  Imagine a single grain of the finest sand in a hay stack the size of of the sun.  As I sat in awe and wonder at this amazing truth I began to understand why God tells in Phil 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing...

If God is bigger than this star (this is only the largest known star, what about all the others we have yet to discover), and I believe He is, then pondering the question, how much did God have to humble Himself to take on human nature to become the perfect sacrifice for the sins of mankind leaves me speechless in awe and wonder.  My hearts sings, "You did it for me, You did it for love, it's Your victory, Jesus You are enough."

Jesus humbled Himself for our sakes, He served, He was persecuted, He was ridiculed, He was poor, He was loving, He was abandoned, He wasn't appreciated, then He died and rose for us that we might have life.  The Lord did this for all mankind, in our lives we are put into relationships, positions and situations that will require us to humble ourselves not always with the sufferings and trials Jesus received and yet sometimes this will be required of us.  Jesus humbled Himself for many, we are called to be humble servants for a few.

I have to tell you that towards the end of the presentation by 4th Day Alliance there was an inexpressible joy welling within me that nearly brought me to tears as I began to realize that my God is bigger than my problems, that He really is my strength, and I really can trust in Him. I felt relief at this new understanding, relief that God is capable.  There was an amazing comfort and peace resting upon me knowing there really is nothing to be anxious about--I am a child of God, an amazing and awesome God, a big God, a loving God who has promised to keep me until the day I am called home.  Amen?  Amen!

Something God cannot do...?

There is a truth the Lord has been ministering to me lately, a truth I cannot deny and a truth so powerful He has been taking me back to it over and over again in the past few weeks.  God cannot lie!  He cannot tell a fib, in fact He cannot even tell a half truth.  

In John 14:6 Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except by Me."  Our God says He is the truth.  If He cannot lie than if He says He is the Way, the Truth and the Life, we ought to take heed in our walks.  This truth is so profound, freeing and rich.  

If the Lord says in Jeremiah 29:11-14a that He has thoughts for us and they are not of evil but of good then we can believe His thoughts are good towards us.  

Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do?  Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

Our Lord cannot tell us that He is for us and then forsake us around the bend.  In fact, in 2 Timothy 2:13 it says, If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.

Have you put your faith and trust in the Lord?  Is your position in Christ under the realm of grace?  Then the Spirit of God is in you and since the Spirit, the Father and the Son are One God in three Persons the Lord cannot deny Himself (He who is in you).  

If you are struggling with discouragement I encourage you to take the time to open up the word of God and discover all the amazing promises He has spoken.  If you are discouraged, chances are, a good portion of your thoughts are centered around you and your short comings.  Make a point to get back into the word and put your focus back on Christ.

In Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus says, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

If our God says He will give us rest for our weary souls, then we can trust this is truth, but the key is we need to come to Him, take His yoke and learn from Him.  He was poor, He was persecuted, He eventually was abandon but His joy was full and His burden was light because He was about the Father's business all His days.  If Jesus says we should come and learn from Him then my conclusion is He wants to teach us something, show us something, and impart truth to us, a truth that will set us free.  The Lord desires to reveal Himself to you and to me.

John 8:36 "Therefore if the Son sets you free you are free indeed."  There is freedom in Jesus, freedom from sin, which includes self-absorbing thoughts designed to bring condemnation and draw us away from God.  Draw near to God and He will draw near to you (Js 4:8 ).  Be anxious for nothing...let your requests be made known to God...and the peace of God...will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Phil 4:6-7).  Consider the birds of the air and the flowers of the field they neither sow nor reap, toil nor spin.  Are you not of more value then they? (Matthew 6:26-29)

The Lord God loves you with and everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3) and that's the truth!
